Not sure I like the switch to a reactive AWD system, especially for the small fuel savings reward. Too bad the Q7 is a bit larger than my needs, but it is an amazing highway hauler. I sat in the back seat (not the third row) of the new model on a brief highway excursion and could not be more comfortable.

Yep, agree 100%. If I want part time 4WD and yet another layer of unpredictability/disconnect affecting driving dynamics, I have a bunch of other manufacturers to choose from. Hopefully Audi sees the light on the SQ5 and maintains full AWD. Better yet if they offer the sport diff option.

According to this article, we'll have to wait until 2018 for the next gen SQ5.
Audi will introduce the next-generation SQ5 next year during the Geneva Auto Show, and the crossover will go on sale shortly after as a 2018 model.

Geneva Show is in March. Maybe it would be available for order shortly thereafter with delivery in September. Sounds like it would be a 2018 model year for the USA. Just not an early 2018 model like the Q5 in April.

From my local dealer.

"The 2018 Audi SQ5 has an estimated arrival in May 2017. Production should begin mid to late February. If you are wanting to order your SQ5, I should have the Order Guide in early January 2017."

woohoo!

Earlier this year, a leaked product schedule from Audi showed that the new Q5 was going to debut in April 2017. The interesting part was that both the Q5 and SQ5 had the same timeline, so the expectation is that they will be released around the same time. However, with Dieselgate in the background, this schedule could have been pushed out a bit.

Another interesting article published today provides additional details.
2018 Audi Q5 First Drive Review | Automobile Magazine

How about more power and fewer emissions? Audi has earmarked the brawny SQ5 for next year, featuring a 350-horsepower V-6 diesel for Europe and a 340-horsepower gasoline unit for the U.S. As a top of the line offering, we should eventually see a 450-horsepower Q5 RS powered by a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6.

Still unconfirmed is the plug-in hybrid boasting the familiar 252-hp 2.0-liter four supported by a punchy electric power pack. Since the all-electric 2018 e-tron, known formerly as the Q6, is based loosely on the Q5, there is probably not enough room for a smaller crossover battery-electric vehicle. According to the Ingolstadt grapevine, the same components set will yield ESS, short for Electric Super Saloon, which effectively looks like a Q6 coupe. Also on the cards, reportedly only for China, is a long-wheelbase Q5. Prices? Virtually unchanged, unless you succumb to the extended option list’s temptations.

Well I absolutely hate the fixed screen. It looks like an aftermarket clip on. The Q7's screen is beautifully designed, and disappears when you want it to. This thing is the exact opposite.

Such a shame as the rest of the car is truly beautiful.

Nice wheels on your A7. Are those factory wheels or after market?
