Default 19" wheels vs 21" wheels

Hello all, I am a new Audi owner (2015 Q7)!! I absolutely love it so far. I have the 3.0 TDI premium plus ... It has the stock 19" 5 spoke rims with Continental 265/50/19's currently. I am wanting to upgrade to 21" rims with 295/35/21's ... But I do not want to change the smoothness of the ride. How big of a difference is the smoothness with the low profile tires vs the all terrain tires I currently have? Thanks for any info ...

I have the same car with the 20's and my neighbor has a 13 with the 19's and I can't tell the difference between the two. I've never ridden in one with the 21's, but I do know with the PSI's in the 20's I'd doubt you'd notice a substantially harsher ride. But that's speculation.

I can tell you that my 21s are a harsher ride than the optional 20s. The sidewall on the 295/35 is much shorter than the 265/50.

In addition the 295/35/21 is $400 per tire and it is currently only available in a three season tire. eBay has an all season tire but not sure if I am going to trust that brand yet.

The 21"s will definitely be harsher, especially without air suspension. In addition, you will only be able to mount high performance summer tires plus they are expensive at about $400 a pop.

So I found some 20" rims that I like, but it says they are for some A series and the Q5 ... Why won't they work for the Q7? They have the same rims for the Q7 except in 21". Any thoughts on why they will/won't work for the Q7?

Also, the tires required to fit the 20" rims should be able to be all season tires, correct?

What 20" rims and tires do you have on your Q7?

Q7 wheel bolt pattern is 5x130

Correct, the Q7, Touareg and Cayenne are all based on the same architecture. Which is why we have the brakes we do (service and parking) and therefore hubs. Porsche did that part of the engineering. The Q5 is based on the A4, so it has the old 5x112 pattern that dates to the original typ43 200 and then Turbo Quattro Coupe. The Q7 is the second Audi to have the Porsche 5x130 pattern, ironically both have rear hatches.

A4 and Q5 wheels won't fit a Q7 due to bolt pattern, offset and center bore differences. Here is a good link to a good wheel fitment calculator. It will be easy to see what fits with what car:

PCD Audi Q7 (2005 - ) 5x130 wheels | PCD, Offset, Center Bore, mounting and tire size data

Here are the fitment guides for the Q7 and the Q5:
