2007 Audi Q7 4.2 - Oil Leak from unidentified hole
I started developing an oil leak which seem to come from the crank seal. But after looking further there was oil pouring out of a round hole in the front right of the engine intake valve area. it looks like a hose or plug belongs there but not able to identify what its function. The hole is about 4 inches deep and pouring oil as the car runs. I put a make shift plug in the hole and it stopped leaking. I am looking to find out what could be the function of this hole. Please see attached pictures taken of the area the oil is coming out of. this is the front right side of the engine at the intake valve area.

I have look though all the 1st and 2nd level manuals and could not find nothing going into the hole just that the hole in right in the path of pressure and oil return channels are located.
The only thing I see could be a freeze plug could have falling out by the force of the oil channel oil pressure.

Hi there, have the same car an Audi Q7 2007 4.2 with the same problem. We re sealed the oil filter housing o rings and the oil separator and have done this twice. Still the same issue. Have you resolved this?

Yep, that hole is to identify when your centre part of the engine is full of oil and it is draining out the front. The cause of the leak is generally the figure 8 o-ring seal for the oil filter housing has failed. You will need to remove the intake manifold to gain this access but there should be plenty of write ups in regards to this leak.
