that is why it is there and was not present on the previous years however the metal buckle is still out in the open and may bang/rattle against the trim. on the previous models it locked into a receptacle and the straps did not move and were not in the way. curious why they did away with this feature.

very annoying that 2009+ models do not have this feature... putting cargo into the Q7 today and kept getting stuck on the belt straps. 2007 had it the best with the locks underneath the third row tucking away everything.

after i was done unloading the cargo i opened up the third row and buckled the seatbelts then tucked the straps into the restraints found on the side panels in the cargo area... now everything is tucked away nice and tight and out of the way.

Maybe it's for another purpose, but that's what I'm using it for.

Same here. I have clips on the side used to keep the belts out of the way.

right, it keeps the belts to the side but the buckles themselves are still exposed when they were not on the 2007 and 2008 models as shown in the photo earlier... not sure why audi decided to delete this feature but i am going to guess it's cheaper.

Another plus for a cargo mat is it helps to keep the belts out of the way.

my major gripe with the Q7 is every i load anything into the cargo area the seat belts get hooked on the packages or items and then hook from the cheap plastic hooks that are supposed to hold them in place. i have tried several ways to get them tucked in better and nothing. before i unbolt the seat belts completely and tuck them into the headliner does anyone on here have any suggestions?

Mine just stay up in the receptacle in the rear pillar - do yours drop down from there?

mine come out of the headliner but they're latched into the chassis and then a plastic hook is supposed to hold it back from the cargo area but doesn't do it very well.

*update: solution i came up with for 2009+ models is to set up the third row in the upright position, then latch the seat belts, then pull some slack on the belt and lower the seat into the locked position then slide the belt under the plastic clips. this was the easiest method. if you want to go a step further you can open the plastic clip that is attached to the belt and then clamp the shoulder belt to the lap belt and then lower the seats. both options results in seat belts that do not flap or get loose in the cargo area.

as far as getting caught on items it will happen no matter which way you try to tuck them away.

unfortunate design flaw for the NAR market. ROW gets detachable and retractable belts in the headliner.
