Default 2012 q7 tdi s-line under load vibrations

hi all,

thank you in advance for your help. my dad has recently bought himself a q7 2012 tdi s-line with 30k on it however shortly after he noticed the following.

- vibrations under load particularly accelerating above 100 km/h uphill
- vibration feel like they are rotational coming from the front of the vehicle, possibly from transaxle, transmission or diff.
- initially thought that it was engine mounts
- vibrations can be felt on the steering wheel , gas paddle and the dashboard
- the dashboard vibrates constantly when driving around 60-80 km/h

as it was under warranty when this started happening he took it in for audi to examine however having been there more than five times now they are yet to determine what is the cause of this. they have accepted that there is something wrong however they can't pinpoint it and are now saying that it might be normal operation. any ideas? has anyone else had similar problems? i haven't been able to find much on the internet about such an issue.

Centre propshaft support bearing!

Can you drive through the vibration and does it feel as if it is from the centre of the car?

Just like the Tauregs. Drive line is bad. Why the hell cant Audi/Vw make a driveline worth a **** in thier SUVs. I have replaced Taureg drive lines with only 60k miles on them. Center bearing totally destroyed and torn apart.

Could be although Audi apparently checked and swapped drive line from a new vehicle and still the same. They then returned old drive line without letting me test with new

I would love for it to be that except that like I mentioned to a previous poster, Audi apparently checked this by replacing with a new drive line however they didn't let me test with new before putting the old one back on. Don't know what to tell them anymore as they keep saying yes there are evident vibrations however we have check everything and all is OK.

I am surprised they did that as a test. It's quite a tricky job and if they did it by the book, the rear subframe has to be dropped a little. There is a quicker way which makes it a lot easier but it takes a bit of ingenuity but means you can do it in about 2 hours.

I would say that's a slight over reaction, especially when you compare the VAG systems with the competitors - most of them were still using leaf springs & UJ's until very recently!

Yes, the centre propshaft bearing support is a weak point and it seems worse on the cars with a shorter wheelbase - Touareg and Cayenne, but it still does fail on Q7's. The rest of the drivetrain is pretty good really.

Tell them you want an equivalent loan car to keep as yours until they fix it. Failing that tell them you will start proceedings against them or AoUSA
