I hear you flynavy - good luck with the SQ7. They are beautiful.

The project is coming along - the main paint has finished and now it's just blacking out all the polished bits on the car including roof rails. It's getting much closer and starting to take shape now. A few more pics.

Wow, painting with the bumpers, door handles, flares and reflectors still on the car. That's gotta be one cheap paint job.

No offense, but this is not the right way to paint your vehicle.

Haters gonna hate - it shows what kind of a person you must be.

Have you seen the finish? Clearly not. I have and it's perfect. What do you know about paint? I deal with paint all day every day. This was near a free paint job for me - something you wouldnt know about.

So until you see something, don't criticize it.

Move on. Do something productive with life dude.

I agree on both counts really.

Yes, it's best to remove as much as possible but if you are staying with the same colour and you want the bumpers especially to look the same as the body you have to paint it 'as-one' or you will end up with a hue mis-match.

I say it looks great and enjoy your car and just be happy with that!

Looks great so far and I'm looking forward to seeing the final product. Will it be lowered so we can put it in the Lowered Q7 thread?

A few more things to do but it's taking shape.

Lowered. Hmm, I don't know, does this count?

So it's starting to shine a little now and take some shape. I still have some work to do on it but I need to be careful now. I don't want overkill but it still needs to pop a little more.

I have actually started thinking now about some real work to the engine so apologies before for saying I wasn't interested to that gentleman.

I spoke with an Audi specialist today and it seems boring the engine to 4.5 and upgrading pistons is not an option here as the cylinders often crack without the boring. He did mention that the new generation 4.0 twin turbos would be possible to retrofit and also they would be able to sort out all of the wiring and electrics. That should see around 600hp and we will then take it from there.

At the moment this is just an idea I am contemplating however will check into the availability of a used new gen RS6 (being the preference) then S7 and S8 engines.

I am happy now the car is back on the road

Honestly, the aluminum V8's don't make great candidates for anything but head work (cams, port work) and programming. A Unitronic Stage 1+ makes 375hp and 342lb-ft for $700. The 4.2L RS4 has the same engine family as the Q7 4.2, but with a beefed up set of internals to take over 8k RPM. In theory it would drop in and give you a 420hp capable bottom end. There are guys that take the old ABH and ABZ and slap twin turbos on those 4.2L engines and make 400+ hp with them with out much trouble. Just something to think about, when you realize the BAR (Q7's 4.2) is a better engine than those.

Thanks cuatrokoop. I researched this quite a bit and discovered the engine internals are not that strong on the Q7 and have heard several stories from techs out here of cylinder heads cracking even when the cars were relatively new. Am now rethinking my take on power while I continue to work on the looks of it. Switched the wheels up for a bit to try something new.
