Default door handle button not functioning

the little black button embedded in my 2007 passenger door handle is not functioning. it feels like the little spring return is shot, its just sort of flat. Is this a big deal to replace? and is it a DIY option?

i would try replacing the battery in your key fob first; if that doesn't work then see if you can borrow a VAG-Com cable to see if the keyless entry is throwing a fault. If so, it'll have to be replaced unfortunately.

Thanks for the feedback but it has nothing to do with the fob or battery. The dealer just told me the entire handle must be replaced to the tune of $350.

Common problem with the keyless door handles. Only solution is to replace the entire handle after getting it painted to match the car. I've had a total of 5 fail on my '07. 3 were replaced under warranty, and the two rear ones have failed again, so I just left them with the lock button not working since I don't use them much. Seems to me like they fail when they don't get used, the handle on my drivers door is the only one that came originally with the truck, and it's the one I use all the time. I've heard on this forum, that broken handles can also lead to battery drain, so you might want to be aware of that. I haven't had that issue with my broken handles with regard to battery drain, but I find it's not worth replacing for $350 per handle, when I rarely use the lock button on the rears.
