Default Newbie looking to buy a used Q7

Hello everyone! I have my heart set on getting a Q7, and I have come to terms that the used route is the way for me.

I really have my heart set on a TDI, as I currently have a Cadillac Escalade and I am tired of paying a hundred dollars a week at the gas station. But here is my dilemma , i recently came across a 2011 3..0T Premium Plus w/ 50k miles on it at a great price and a 2012 3.0t w/ 48k of straight highway miles at an even better price. Both of these cars are under 35k.

My question is this : Are Audi's posted MPGs panning out in real life and would you skip the 3.0T's and wait and hope for a TDI in the same price range.

BTW I know they are expensive to maintain and I am prepared for that.

Thanks for any feedback in advance!

I got a 2008 3.6 fsi, I travel 20 highway miles to work every day & I average about 18MPG. For long trips i can get 20MPG

Why not review fuelly.com for real world values?

I have a 4.2 and the mileage is ehhh but I love the car and I was prepared for the gas consumption. As for your dilemma i would go with the 2012 simply for resale purposes unless there are features that you want or would like to have over one another? If not les miles better yr easier to flip in the long vs older. just my 2c.

Default 2008 3.6l FSI - average 16-18MPG regardless

I don't think any SUV in this caliber will get good gas mileage. It's my weekend and winter skiing driver, so it doesn't bother me about the gas mileage. I've had the Q7 since 2008 and now it only has 38,500 miles. Haven't had to spend a dime on fixing. Extremely reliable.
-New tires at 38k miles (the old tires didn't even touch the minimum mark yet, but I needed the new tires for the snow).
-Same brakes.
-Oil changed 4 times at the dealer.
-Everything still works
-Only problem is the range of the remotes and dealer can't figure out how to make them work as far as my A8.
-Same battery.
-Solid as a rock.
I don't really like SUV, but this one, we can live with.

Cheers and good luck,

Louis

Thanks for the replies! I have a new monkey wrench to throw into the mix. I've called five Audi indy mechanics and they have all said that the TDI is the way to go. I found one, but it's a 2010 Premium Plus. It has 55k+ miles on it. I know it's and older year and the transmission is different, but outside of that, I'm actually thinking this 2010 TDI may be the car for me.

What's your opinion would you go for youth or better mileage?

I think TDI does have its own problems, read up on the reviews and users comments. I would rather lease a brand new one instead of spending $35k for a 55k miles car. After 3 years of leasing, we decided it's a great car to keep, so we bought it. We took care of the car well and the kids love it, we'll keep it until we stop skiing or going to the Sierras.

Cheers and good luck,

Louis
