EPA TDI Ruling...
Volkswagen could face $18 billion penalties from EPA | Reuters
Presumably we Q7 TDI owners have the same software... Or is this alert limited to the four cylinder engines?!?!
(That aside, I am loving my new 2015 Q7 TDI 3.0 litre 6 cylinder Prestige S-Line!!!! 5,200 miles in so far...)

Don't the articles suggest it pertains to 4 cyl diesels only?

I'd sure like to see some normal operating data on what the actual difference is in grams/unit vol vs. other gasoline and hybrid high mileage makers are claiming.
This 40X value I'm seeing in the media is without any kind of perspective or context. It's not like the cars in question never got 45+ MPG. We certainly would have heard about that now if that were the case.....

Looked up my VIN and none found. I think this is limited to the 4 cylinders only.

Currently it's just the 2.0 4 cylinder TDI engines that are on the recall list. But the probe was just expanded to include the 3.0 V6 TDI engines. Just to be clear, the 3.0 V6 TDIs are not on the recall list, but rather are just being looked at to see if there are any infractions. They are also looking at other manufacturers.

This is a huge mess for VW Audi, on the one hand you have issues with the governing bodies and on the other hand you have issues with your customers. I don't think I've ever seen a recall where after the recall your car is going to be worse than it was before (on performance and fuel economy).
11 million vehicles with the EA189 TDI engine are going to be scrutinized. I would imagine the governing bodies of various countries are going to demand all of VW Audi TDI engine types be re-tested, not just the EA189. That could widen the problem, but maybe not. So you have potential fines in many different countries which will be reduced if VW Audi show good faith in resolving the issue.
The other problem is how does the engine actually perform when the software does what its supposed to do on the road, not just in test mode? If the vehicles performance and fuel economy suffer, which it will, then your looking at a class action lawsuit from everyone who owns one of these vehicles. Then you have the recall itself. All of these vehicles will have to come in to a dealership and have the software updated to do what it should have done in the first place. Will people who own these vehicles actually bring them in knowing that your bringing it in essentially for a performance and fuel economy downgrade? I can imagine a significant number of people refusing to bring their cars back to a dealership and bypassing the "downgrade" all together.
