How do you turn off the ac/air/climate control?

I find that the Auto buttons turns all settings to default including enabling the compressor. The only thing it does not do is alter the temperature settings.
To disable auto, simply alter any setting other than selecting Econ, this disables the auto function and means that fan speed and air flow distribution are set as manual.
