Default How long does it take to bring your car to standard operating temperature?

I start my car in the morning, wait the 30s or so for the tach to drop below 1, and then go. I drive 10 highway miles, and by the time I arrive to work, my temp gauge needle seems to have barely moved. Normal? It is the winter time...

My first Audi and yes, it seems to take the Audi engine longer than my 2010 Jeep JKU to warm up. The Jeep is warming up after about 5 minutes, the Audi takes about 15 to really start warming up. But, the seat heaters keep me cozy until the heat kicks in

Diesels always take longer to warm up than gassers.

Chazertis, I've had a diesel Chevy truck, do have a diesel John Deere tractor and traded a Mercedes diesel E320 for my Q7 TDI. By far, the Audi takes the longest to warm up on a cold morning. The diesel Jetta my wife has warms much more quickly. Ten miles driving would warm my Audi, but then I do live in the southern part of heaven, North Carolina. :-)

Did they install the supplemental heater in the diesel Q7 for N America?

Yes - it is supposed to improve the speed at which the cabin temperature warms up. This heater is different from the aux heater fitted in some markets like Scandinavia which allows pre-heating of the engine before the car is started.

I don't have a diesel. And I'm not talking about cabin temp. I'm talking about engine temp. I just get worried that I'm driving to work and back every single day and my car never reaches standard operating temperature.

Chaz, it doesn't sound normal if you can travel that far without it coming up to temp.

How is the cabin heat? Are you shivering?

Do you have a VCDS cable?

I'm going to document tonight after work. Also I did have a vagcom but got rid of it thinking I wouldn't have any more use for it. Now, 3 Audi's later...I'm kicking myself in the butt

If you are anywhere close to Westchester Co., I can help you with VAG-COM.
