Laminated windows
Does anybody here have dual-glazed side windows? They come as part of every trim above standard s-line in the UK and I was curious as to whether they actually made a difference. I have had laminated windows on previous cars (W220 s class) but not on my current car (facelift W221) which has very little wind noise anyway. On the test drive I was in a single-glazed car and did not hold a high speed (above 50) for any considerable time. The reason for the question is because the s-line plus/sport cars are generally without options like advanced key and a sunroof. Are they worth it, or would it be better to find a specced-up s-line?
BTW, how do people find the Blind spot assist system? Does anyone have experience of the Mercedes system (which is on my current car) and, if so, how does the Audi system compare? Is it worth looking for a car with one? (this option is extremely rare here)

It is listed under safety and security in the brochure
'Double glazing – windscreen and side
windows in 2-layer laminated safety glass,
connected to each other by a plastic film.
Improves insulation against outside noise
and adds break-in protection'
Apparently it is standard equipment on all s-line and above anyway, so that part of the problem may be solved if people can confirm 2 layers of glass in each window.
What about the blind-spot system? is it worth looking for?

I had it in my 210 Q7, and liked it.
I did not have it in my 2014 ML350BTC, and missed it a lot - especially since the ML's B pillar blocked the side view to the rear much more than the Q7.
I'm looking forward to having it again on my soon to be delivered 2015 Q7.

I would say the Q7 is pretty quiet anyway. My A8 had double glazing and was extremely quiet but I cannot say the Q7 is that much noisier inside. The majority of interior noise is from the Aisin transmission and double glazing will not reduce that at all, later cars with the ZF box may well be quieter.
Side assist can be useful, especially when driving in France which I do quite a lot. It occasionally gives false warnings when driving by railings or other stationary objects but you soon get used to it.
I would buy the best car you can find and not be too hung up either double glazing or side-assist. Depending on what year car you are looking at, I would avoid keyless - the door handles can be unreliable in wet weather.
