BMW offers a four cylinder diesel here (and other markets) in the f31 3series.
I found this quote in an online review of the 2014 BMW X5 "For the first time, the X5 will be available with a turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine with rear-wheel drive configuration. Powering the xDrive25d and sDrive25d variants, this new engine uses two turbochargers to produce 220PS of power."

news to me. just looked it up and you're right. first i am hearing of it. stumbled upon a review by top gear and this was the final comment:
"Interesting but not the X5 we'd have. It's not even the large SUV to have. Not BMW's finest hour."
lol. seems nobody is happy with the recent changes in the german lineup.

With gasoline prices dropping and maybe continuing to do so, will these economy versions even sell in the US? Quite a conundrum for the manufacturers. I guess CAFE standards keep them looking for odd answers. Overall I don't quarrel with environmental standards, but across the board solutions to most things don't work. A family of six gets better mpg/person in a huge 7 liter V8 SUV than I do when it is just me in a little four-banger.

no arguments here, the whole thing confuses me as well. i am looking at this oil price war as a temporary tax relief for the end user. enjoy it while you can before things stabilize and go back to where they normally would be.

The curb weight of the new q7 is very close to the current q5.

So it's not like the 2.0 q5 doesn't fly off Audi lots. It's one of the most popular cars and engines on the market.

So with a bump to 252hp and 273 torque, the 2.0 Q7 should be just as quick as a 2.0 Q5. ....or very close

I agree. When I first heard the 2.0 was going to be in the A6 I laughed, but now I am happily driving one. I guess it all depends on one's actual and perceived need for power and speed.

the majority of the original owners of the previous gen. dislike the new design. I saw a lot of negative comments when we bought our first Q7 back in Dec. 2006 and now it has turned out to be an incredible success with the Audi selling more Q7's later in it's life cycle than when it was first announced. I attribute this to Audi's design growing on more people and Audi becoming a bigger player in the marketplace

A new design means change and most people don't like change. I think once people see this in person and on the road, the design will take on better acceptance. Sometimes, people just need to get used to something new...and since Audi's designs tend to be more of a sophisticated design language they do not have the same impact in the marketplace as a very dramatic and short term design does.

JMHO

...as for me, the wife and I have already made plans to do euro delivery in August 2016 for a 2017 model :-)
Well said, but the first 2006 Q7 looks significantly different than the final outgoing 2014 Q7. The looks improved significantly over the years and the same will be true of the MKII. The front and wheel arches are so ridiculously ugly, but easily fixable with body kit improvements in model years to come. I'm guessing by MY '17 or '18 we should be good.
