This one is along BC Hgwy #37a between Hgwy #37 and Stewart, BC Canada. This road is really something!
Averaging about 17.5 mpg with a full sized spare up top and pulling the 4,400 lb karavan.

Total Miles: 10,355 miles
Total Time Driving: 216.33 hrs
Average Speed: 52 mph
Fuel Consumption: 17.5 mpg
Used 3 qts of oil, most probably due to using low gears and the engine to assist braking on the numerous downhill runs.

Q7 got 17.5 mpg vs 15 mpg for the MB ML under pretty much identical conditions. Both are 3 liter diesels. Manual downshifting for engine braking is a whole lot more intuitive with the Q7 than with those silly column paddle shifters on the ML. The conventional power steering on the Q7 gives a whole lot better road feel than the electric steering on the MB ML.
Lots of other minor niggles where the Q7 is superior. Examples: The Q7's 12 volt power sockets stay on, even when the car is turned off. This allows the use of an Engel fridge. The MB ML turns the 12 volt sockets off when the car is shut down, which cuts power to the fridge. The Q7's trailer receiver is about 2" higher than the ML, which is too low. This makes for easier deployment of the karavan's jockey wheel on uneven ground. If more height is needed, the Off-Road level on the Q7 raises it enough for good clearance of the jockey wheel.
The one negative for the Q7 was that it used 3 qts of oil on this trip. The MB ML last year did not.
