Im in a non-Audi area. Closest dealer is 90 miles away so I don't get to go see them if I have questions. I'm getting ready to buy a Q7 soon, and need to know how much space is available between the 3rd row and the tailgate. Can any of you current Q7 owners give me an idea?

Not much. About 18" from the base of the 3rd row to the tailgate. The seats are about 18'-20" tall from the cargo floor to the top of the seat (not including the headrests). From the top of the seats to where the tailgate window would be in the closed position is about 10". Practically speaking, I can fit two 23" roller bags on the bottom followed by two medium sized duffel bags on top of those. On top of that, maybe two computer bags and purses. Technically, with the 3rd row up, you have 10.9 cubic feet of cargo space.

You can fit 1 golfbag and maybe 3-4 paper grocery bags with 3rd row up. If you are planning on going anywhere with 6-7 passengers either a trailer hitch mount is a MUST (etrailer.com has an excellent aluminum hitch mount) or a roof racked luggage carrier to carry additional luggage. In addition you'll want to buy a waterproof raincover for the hitch mounted trailer items if you plan on going anywhere with a decent distance.
