Pulled out the j271 relay and replaced it, no difference. Tested for power at relay and got 12V. Wondering now how to start looking at the various modules. A VW tech indicated to me that the only way to test these modules is to replace them with a known working unit. Is that the case? Will the car run if the faulty module has been replaced without it being coded to the car? Thanks

If I have a faulty module, specifically either of the onboard power supplies or the gateway, if they are replaced (individually) will I know if this is the problem without having the ability to code them? Thanks!

Everything seems to point at the ECM, remove your wipers and plastic dip tray. Then look at your ECM on the passenger side, look for water or corroded pins.

Thanks, will do. I am also going to check for power and continuity from the J271 main power supply relay socket to the appropriate terminal on the ecm harness to make sure there isnt a problem in between. If there is no problem I can assume its the ECM? such a bummer. Do these fail commonly?
