Q7 Pagid Squeal vs. Hawk Ceramics
I just did a front and rear brake job on the Q using Pagid semi metallic pads and my rotors were still in good condition so I installed the Pagid's and followed the bedding technique to a T, used plenty of anti-squeal on the moving parts. These pads had the most hideous squeal that I have ever heard in my life! This occurred as you almost come to a complete stop with gentle to normal pressure. If you aggressive stopped the noise was a little less but still there. I put over 150 miles on the pads and I had no luck with the squeal going away. This drove me absolutely crazy, the noise was so loud that anyone and everyone would hear you pulling up to a stop signal and just stare. I ended up ordering and installing the Hawk Ceramics and they killed the squeal issue! The Hawk pads have plenty of bite and solved the noise problem. Everything that I have read on the Hawk ceramics indicates that the brake dust issue is reduced significantly as well. My advice to anyone needing a brake job soon is don't waste your time with the semi metallic pads, go with ceramic and save your sanity!
