Default Q7 Rear Calipers

I am unfortunate enough to have the 1KD option on the rear brakes of my Q7 meaning it has the larger 358mm discs/rotors and a unusual type of Brembo caliper also almost doubling the price of parts....... for any that stock them.
My fault i guess for having the 340bhp V8tdi.

My wear indicator has just come on so its pad and possibly disc change to, no problem normally but when you look at the caliper it does not have the knock out pin on top and there is no way the pads will come out the top.

Does anyone have a guide for these calipers, from what i can see I either have to remove the caliper and unbolt the pads or might be able to unbolt and slide to the center of the hub.

Caliper

Pads

As you can see these are totally different to the 330mm normal rear brake setup.

You WILL have to remove the caliper in order to remove and replace the pads. Porsche has gone to this style of caliper on the 981 Cayman and Boxster too. Many complaints from the guys who track them and change pads frequently. Our Q7 rear calipers are the older style and are almost exactly like the front calipers on my 987 Cayman. I don't see this newer closed face caliper as an improvement.

Cheers for the quick response.
Will i have to undo the two splined bolts that look to hold the pad on too?
There must be a reason for the change

Yes I believe you will. Looks like an inverted triple square socket of appropriate size will be needed. Some say that the Brembo caliper is now closed front to stiffen it and reduce flex. The caliper on your Q7 is from a different supplier. Better or worse? I don't know. Our Q7 with the more common Brembo calipers has great brakes though.
