Q7 TDI or Gas.
Hello there ... wanted to see what all was out there and today we test drove a TDI Q7.. Wife loved it and basically wants to buy it.. But finding a Scuba Blue in a TDI is not easy, or at least the dealer was having issues finding one.
So that leaves gas...
Should I look harder and or change my color needs for a TDI or is the gas just as good. I like diesels to be honest, the TQ is fun to drive on and the millage is a nice benefit.
We tend to keep cars a long time and to be honest cars these days seem to be really expensive so I want to make sure we make a good decision.
Thanks
David

Personally, I would change colors. The TDI engine is a joy to drive - not only for its fuel economy, but also for its smooth low rpm torque. No way would I take a gasser!
I had a 2010 Q7 3.0 TDI which I never should have sold. I have a 2015 on order that will, hopefully, be delivered by the end of the month. It's been on order since mid-Sept. I'm getting impatient.

Like Dutch, I also would abandon a particular color and buy TDI. That's what I did in November, though what I was looking for was the combination of TDI and a factory-installed towing package. I'm loving my TDI! Not my first, either: I traded a Chevy 6.6 liter diesel truck and a Mercedes E-class diesel car to afford the Q7.
However, your dealer should check the stock of all Audi dealerships. My eventual Q7 was found about 300 miles from my location. The dealer had to create a three-way swap with two other dealerships to get mine. Try asking for something like that, as it only took an extra week.

TDI first and color second. Patience may get you both. I am never going back to gasoline. If I retired with no income and can't afford an Audi, I will buy a VW TDI just because it is diesel.

We looked forever for a blue one with either engine. My dealership had a Teak brown TDI come in and I bought it before they could even list it online. Never had a brown vehicle before but even that is growing on me. The TDI is awesome. Get that even if it has to be pink! :-)

I'm of the opposite opinion. My dealer gave me a new TDI to drive for a week last month while my Q was being serviced. I much prefer the 333HP gas motor.

Another very satisfied TDI customer. You will be very happy with the performance and the time you will save not having to fill up so frequently (20% to 30% fewer fill-ups city vs. highway).

One more vote for the TDI. I've had a couple 3.0T loaners while mine was in for scheduled maintenance and they were nice as far as performance and felt very agile when I floored them but the fuel economy just wasn't there for me. I drive 20k miles per year, its my daily driver, my workhorse if you will and I really enjoy getting 500+ miles out of full tank. I'd buy the TDI again if I had to.
