I just got a 2014 Q7 TDI and I have to say I am impressed. I've driven ~250 miles and the fuel gauge is still slightly above half full. I'd already be at the gas station with my 2001 allroad. Very nice and torque-y too -

I evaluated both, chose the TDI, and am very happy. The extra torque really makes a difference given the substantial curb weight. When I test drove the 3.0T, it felt under-powered compared to the TDI off the line. The torquey-ness can really be felt when the transmission is in Sport mode. I consistently get 30mpg on the highway, which is noticeably higher than the original estimates. I can't think of any other SUV's with the same capacity and capability for the same gas mileage.

TDI for the torque! The better mpg is an added bonus.

Don't forget, the Q7 has about half again the fuel capacity!

i don't think anyone can forget... get hit at the pump with 20-22gallons the first few times reminds you to fill up at quarter or half tank.

Default City driving

I have the tdi ('13) and live in a dense urban environment...love the torque...and highly recommend. However, the diesel engine takes a LONG time to get to temperature....and many of our brief trips (a couple of miles back and forth to grocery) yield 10-13 mpg....having said that I'm still averaging 23mpg combined overall...and love road trips in excess of 30 mpg with no stops for 600 miles + for refueling.

huge issue along with long winters and very deep temperatures means the engine and heater take a long time to warm up... i recall reading on here and a few other places that many people had issues with the car's cabin getting warm in a reasonable amount time during the winter.

No issue with TDI keeping warm last winter or starting up in -10 weather. The steering wheel is heated too Overall, I can't complain about the Q7 or Q5 TDI. The A6 TDI in my opinion is the one to own if you don't need a SUV. It was fast off the line and very fuel efficient. Highway trips, the Q7 TDI easily gets 30+mpg depending on your driving style and road condition. 35MPG was the highest I've seen.

I have had a very bad experience with my Q7 TDI. Took it to the Audi dealership for service because it would not drive faster than 10 mph. It is still at the service center since May 27. More than 3 months ago! They still cannot figure out how to fix the problem. Based on this ongoing experience, I would avoid the TDI.

I would certainly start a Lemon Law litigation, if it were mine.
