Default Q7 TDI tires

Ive looked thru a lot of the former threads, and have also done a ton of research on tires for this vehicle. It seems there is only ONE tire that is approved for the vehicle I have, which is the TDI premium plus with 265/50/19 H rated. The tire is the Goodyear Eagle LS2 which is on there now. There are other tires in this size, although very few. According to Tire Rack, I could go to a V rated tire, steering and ride comfort would both be affected.
Happy to have anyone chime in on this one...

As long as you maintain your speed rating and load index, you should be OK to select another tire.

There's no reason you can't go up in speed rating if that's all that's available. Are U suggesting that the vehicle would be degraded in some way going from H to V? Is that what Tire Rack is suggesting?

What Tire Rack and my local Audi service dept has said is that the car is designed for the H rating, and that anything beyond this will change the handling of the vehicle. I've owned many cars in my life and have had many different tires, but never owned a vehicle such as this with so few tire choices.

In a negative way? is that what you are suggesting?

When I look at Tire Rack for your size, I see six choices. These 6 choices are all H rated and carry the XL load range with the appropriate 110H service description ...

There are also a couple tires to look at over at Discount Tire.

The other options are summer tires. this would then require separate winter tires. i should have clarified above, that im looking at all season tires. and yes, i was told the handling would be a bit rougher with a different speed rating.

i do now see the pirelli as an option. anyone have experience with these? pirelli scorpion verde.

I have no direct experience, but the Scorpion is a popular and common OE tire.

Have you spent any time reading reviews that people share? That can be worthwhile and you might learn something from it if you hear a recurring theme in these discussions.

I personally don't jump to the conclusion that the vehicle is going to be "worse" if one fits a V rated tire where H was originally fitted by the mfr. OTOH, I've never owned an SUV so there might be some dynamics going on that I can't appreciate.

The conti DWS is available in that size..... just read the reviews.

I run them on my X5 4.8,allroad and 335xi . . . .

EDIT:
oops that is incorrect! I had 255 selected. You really have no good choices. Get the revs per mile of the stock tires from tire rack, and upsize to to 275 or downsize to 255 imo

I have the 20" tires on my 2010 Q7 3.0 TDI, and just replaced those noisy Goodyears with Yokohama Parada Spec-X at 27,500 miles. They are not on the approved list, but meet all the specs of the Goodyears.

What a nice comfortable and QUIET ride! And they do have rim protection, just not quite as much as those noisy Goodyears. I'm pleased.

i have just had to replace my tires!!

i measured 4mm tread when i serviced the car in september, now the fronts are down to minimum!! rears look ok, but are low.

i dont see how they have worn so much in a couple of months!!

anyway, was going to get winter tyres and was suggested pirelli scorpion ice and snow fitted for £1,350 for 4. but opted just to go for summer tyres as i can run them all year and save changing back come summer time.

so i opted for the same as i have now. Pirelli P-Zero Rosso in 295/35/21 for a set of 4 £1,200 fitted.

not a bad price for each tyre at £275 dont think you will find cheaper than that in the UK.

bad time to have to fork out for new tyres, but i cant avoid it!! and cant risk it, especially in the wet wintry weather now.

i also bought a set of alloygators to fit to each wheel. any one seen these before? thought they were a good idea.

http://www.alloygator.co.uk/home.asp

i went for the silver, should cover existing kerb damage and also give a wider look to the wheels already in silver.
