I have a new to me, 2008 Q7 S-line, 4.2. I received a code, P2181, coolant temperature sensor. I noticed the temp gauge in the dash wasn't working. I replaced the front sensor, cleared the code and all was well. Gauge worked again, no more codes.

The next day, the temp gauge wasn't working anymore. No codes are present and the car seems to be cooling itself correctly, as I can see the engine temp in my phone application with my Kiwi.

I found the rear sensor and replaced it as well (what a pain for a guy with bigger hands). The temp gauge still doesn't work. Is there a sending unit or something that is getting the data from these sensors? Any reason for it working temporarily?

I did. Replaced the thermostat. Problem solved.

Hi i was windering if you could give me some help on changing the sensors. You are the only person i have found that has 4.2L q7 that has experience changing them. Please help

Where is the thermostat located. Mine needs to be replaced as well. Thank you
