Got my 295 / 40 R21 Continetal ExtremeContact DWS06 on my 2015 Q7.
I put thru a lot of turning and up/down hill tests and is fine. No rubbing. Looks awesome !!! The Conti's have really nice ride. The 40s give a real meaty/beastie look over the 35s.

I have Yokohama Advan Sport. Still 90% mean on them, but no complaints so far. I don't expect them, or any other summer tire brand in this segment to last a long time though

@thekochs- (or anyone else with a 40 series tire) would love to hear how you like the 40 series now that you've had it a few days!
Personally, I'd love to go to a higher profile tire on our Q7.. I think having a bit higher profile will help with curbs that seem to jump out and more importantly ride quality, which I have found to be lacking in our Q7 (we don't have air suspension)
Thanks

We had the 295/35/21 Dunlop Sport Maxx's on our Q7 when we bought it and we hated them - we always thought they were loud, they tramlined badly, rode harsh and started cupping with only 20k on them. We got an unrepairable nail hole in one of them a few months ago and wanted to get the Conti DWS06 but it wasn't out yet so we bought a set of 4 like new Conti UHP in 295/40/21 that a neighbor took off his MB GL. Night and day different. The look is much better, fills the wheel well, no rubbing at all, rides way quieter and less harsh on the cracks and potholes.
We did notice a loss of power though - we can tell that the tire is heavier than the Dunlops - acceleration in our Sline feels more sluggish since putting the heavier UHP's on, feels less sporty. And we get some hard down shifts when coming to a stop light, usually when the light changes to green mid stop.
We also noticed our GPS dead reckoning is off - our indicator on our nav map moves just slightly off track and there are times it has a hard time knowing which road we are in city areas with lots of over and under passes or when getting off on an exit, it will hang on to the highway track for way longer than before. I wonder if a Vagcom change would be possible to change the tire size/rpm's somewhere to fix that...anyone know?
Mathematically:
275/45/20 tire size OD is 29.744" (Conti lists OEM tire as 29.7")
295/35/21 tire size OD is 29.129" (Dunlop lists OEM tire as 29.0")
295/40/21 tire size OD is 30.291" (Conti lists both the UHP and DWS as 30.3")
So the 295/40/21 DWS06 size is just over an inch taller than the OEM Dunlops and only just over 0.5 inch taller than the 20" size.
Weight wise per manufacturer:
275/45/20 OEM Dunlop weight is 35lbs
295/35/21 Conti UHP weight is 34lbs
295/35/21 Conti DWS06 weight is 32lbs
295/40/21 Conti UHP weight is 40lbs
295/40/21 Conti DWS06 weight is 37lbs
The Conti DWS06 in 295/40/21 seems to be a middle compromise as far as weight goes, might give us back some of the spring in the step while still keeping the taller profile. We will probably change to the DWS06 soon if there is a setting to change for the rpm/size to correct the gps otherwise we will go back to DWS06 in 295/35/21 and hope the tire construction alone will make the ride less harsh and quieter than the Dunlop OEMs. If only they made the DWS06 in 315/35 - I think it would be perfect (29.68 OD and probably at 34/35 lbs, would be perfect and I think the width wouldn't be an issue looking at how much room the 295/40's have still on our Q.

Also, I'm not a BIG RIM / SLIM TIRE type guy. I like the larger rims but want a beefier look with the tires mounted. You can see from my pic/post above the look.....you would not think big difference in look from 35s to 40s but there is for sure.

I have a 2013 Q7 TDI Sline came original with the 21" Dunlops. I am replacing them with Pirelli Pzeros after 20,000 km (regularly rotated and maintained consistent tire pressure). I've read mixed reviews on the Pirelli's and am hoping to get 25,000 km out of them. Does anyone have experience with this tire on their Q7?
In case anyone is interested in a solid winter tire I use 20" Nokian Hakapalita 7's (factory studded) and I have to say the performance of these tires is outstanding in fall/winter conditions. I've put 60,000 km on these tires and only 50% tread loss (this was my 3rd winter on them). Excellent stopping and control on snow and ice, even black ice. Many excursions into the mountains and up mountain passes at elevation with -30 C temperatures. Anyone looking for a great winter tire for the Q7 should seriously consider the Hakapalita line from Nokian.

I had the Dunlop Sport Maxx (OEM) 295/35R21 and only got 7k out of them I actually called Dunlop and got my tires warrantied and got another 7k.
I just switched to Continental DWS and went to a 0º toe front and rear. Hopefully with the harder tire and no toe my tires will last longer.
