Q7 Trailer 12V on 7-way plug
Hi,
I have a 2014 Q7 with factory installed hitch and a Tekonsha Primus IQ Brake Controller that the dealer installed. The brake and lighting signals all work, however the 12V pin does not have any power to it. This means that the trailer batteries do not get charged while I'm towing. I've looked through the threads, but it seams most people are towing boats with the Q7. Is there anyone with a Q7 towing a trailer that can tell me whether their setup charges the trailer batteries when towing?

They should have the wiring diagram and seeing as its a factory setup they should have the answer.

I believe there is a separate wiring assemble with a control module to facilitate trailer power.
Here in the UK I have fitted the 13 pin power connector rather than the basic 7 pin and I guess that provide for additional auxiliary power but I don't use it for anything other than a small trailer for bikes etc...

I just got off the phone with the dealer, he wasn't confident but asked around and it seems that the Q7 does not provide 12V to the 12V pin on the 7-way adapter. It looks like I'll be splicing into the the auxillery DC power in the trunk to get 12V to the pin.
However, it looks like there is power to the auxillery DC ports at all time. Seems I will have to unplug if I don't want to drain my battery.

Yah, the outlets are always on in the Q7. I'm thinking I may be able to get at the 12V going to the brake controller. There is a blue and black pair plug between the Audi towing module and the spare tire. I'll put a meter on it tomorrow.

When i bought my Q7 at Xmas, i had the extra wiring fitted for 12v charger and fridge, when towing the Caravan.. Some dealers in the UK will charge for this, costs can be around £400...
