As mentioned earlier, brake dust is a brake pad issue, not a car manufacturer issue (other than the pads they choose...). What is your observation on the engine noise vs. the Q7 TDI? I have a friend with a 2 year old BMW that sounds like a diesel vs. my Q7 TDI that is very quiet. Seems like the Audi TDI engine is better designed and they use more soundproofing. Also, to me, the seats in the BMW were not comfortable at all(very hard). Add that to the SUV ride (my Q7 has air suspension), and I am always happy to take our Q7 when we go someplace together.

One other comment. I use my Q7 TDI to tow my cars to the track. When I bought my Q7, the BMW's did not even offer a towing package (factory or after market). That may have changed. However, not having a factory tow package offer was a deal killer to me for the BMW.

Are they ceramic pads maybe?
Not that I'm aware of but the feel good and give off almost no dust at all.
The Q7 was a fricken dust magnet from the rear hatch window to the wheels, I spent a lot of time trying to keep it clean.

I also considered the X5 but the new X is a new production which means there could be some growing pain problems. The Q7 has been around a long time so all the bugs have been worked out, maybe better reliability.

Interior space is also no contest, I love the Q7 back seat, my also came with butt warmers and 4 zone air/heat for front and back pax. The 3rd row seat can even fit small adults.

The on board WIFI could be better if they had used VERIZON for better coverage. T-Mobile is only so-so. I carry an extra Verizon Jetpack in areas that T-Mobile don't serve.

Had X5 Prior to Q7 and just 2000 miles prior to warranty ending Trans went out. I have an S-Line and really don't see my vehicle too often but see numerous X5's everywhere. Good luck,

Default I own Both

I have a 2011 Q7 TDI prestige and a 2013 X5 35D pretty well loaded....

The X5 makes just as much if not more brake dust as my q7

The Q7 Rides MUCH nicer than the x5...The X5 with a shorter wheelbase is hoppier.

The 20" Run Flats AND offset sizes are a FUC*ing nightmare...HAD I KNOWN this upfront...I would have NEVER bought this car with the sport package...Tires are $1600 a set and you cant rotate them...at 30K miles we have replaced all 4 2x now AND the rear driver one more time from road debris...They are magnets for nails, screws etc...lucky to get 10-12K out of the fronts.

Fuel econ...8 speed tranny in the Q7 vs. the x5 all day long...The Q get's much better fuel econ with the better gearing.

Tech...love the Streaming bluetooh on the BMW...BMW has better tech by far...The NAV on the q7 sucks and is a nightmare to use.

Service...HANDS DOWN BMW....I have spent nothing on the car but tires...Just had all 4 rotors and pads done for free..The Q7..pads was $800 alone....Cant beat the BMW service...

Overall...Wife likes my Audi better and so do I. The Bmw is great BUT not as good as the Q...Buying a new q7 when the new model launches.
