Mine ended up being the lock on the liftgate/latch itself.

Part# 4F9 827 505

Parts ($50) and labor... $260. If I knew, I would of done it myself.

Thank you so much, this solved my problem today, my spring was broken and I could also see this simply by removing the tray. It was jammed inside the mechanism but I managed to get it out and salvage it like you did. Applied some white lithium grease to all moving parts and put it back together, worked on the first try

Come to think of it, I've had this problem with my car for about a year, it would close completely, then open up again an inch or so, but it would still register as closed and the taillights would work etc - it was just this week that the problem manifested itself in that the trunk would no longer register as closed.

Thanks again from Norway!

Default Close Button not responding from full open

From what I can tell through a search, I've been having a different problem from the other posts in this Thread. On a few occasions on cold days (<20F) after the 13 Q7 has been sitting out, the hatch will open, but when I attempt to close it using the button on the bottom of the hatch, no response. I have to push it closed and there's significant resistance. Any thoughts? Is the button/switch going bad?

i just bought a q7 last month. its a 2011 and im having this problem already. my coil spring in the bottom striker is in place and seems ok. im thinking its the locking latch on the hitch. i ordered one and should be here by end of week. im going to try to install myself as i had it all apart last night anyways and doesnt seem too bad. hopefully it will fix it, as its currently not driveable.
