Default Rear right tail light not working

My rear right tail light is not working, instead the one on the bumper lights up when the brake is pressed and/or when the lights are turned on. After doing research i found a few threads with this issue, the solution for them was the replacement of the tailgate hatch switch (picture below) but after changing it i still have the same problem. Anyone recommend anything else? do i need to get it re programmed in order to work?

the thing is, the entire light is not working, turn signals and everything. it did work once, until i opened the trunk then closed it, then stopped working again.

Multimeter in the light loom is where i would be checking to see if there is power coming in. If there is, then the problem is your complete tail light is faulty.

if power was coming into the light loom, wouldnt the bulb light up? but i see what you mean, maybe ill try to see where the power stops coming in through the wiring. But im pretty sure when theres something wrong, doesnt the car automatically cut off power to the tail light? and then sends power to the bumper light, which is why the bumper light is now on

I'll bet it was a bad ground as the whole unit was out.
