Default Replace all 4 or just 1 tire

All,
The rear passenger tire of my '15 Q7 (9500 miles) burst out and needs to be replaced. Can I get away with just replacing that one tire with a Hankook ventus OR should I replace all 4?

I have read that usually replacing all 4 is advisable, but given the low mileage and the cost of replacing all 4, I was wondering if I should just do the one.

Will appreciate your perspective,
Thanks,

You need to measure the three remaining tires and then determine what the tread depth is of a fresh tire. Permitted variance is 4/32" (1/8").

If your tire wear is similar to mine...9500 miles would mean the tire is already at least half worn...not really low mileage as you said. Measuring tread depth is the only way to figure out how worn the tire truly is. Ideally you'll also want your tires to match, since you'll have different grip amounts from different types of tires.

Matching brand and model tires is not just desirable but necessary. Different tires can damage the Quattro drive system as well as cause traction issues. Same with the 1/4" max depth variance between the four tire treads. You can see on Tire Rack the tread depth spec of your new tire replacement and compare to your lowest tread depth tire. If more than 4/10 variance, all four should be replaced. Not all is bad news though - you can choose a better set than Audi provided. Not sure that would be Hankook though.

Some places can shave a new tire down to be similar to the old tires. This would save having to buy four new tires if the variance was too high but you felt that there was still some good wear left in the old tires. Just another option that may help you decide what to do.

Measure the tread depth, and replace in pairs (same "axle") if depth is allowable. This is what I did when I noticed a cut on a ~4k mile old Scorpion Verde on the 4.2.

Yup. At least replace in pairs.
