I've pushed and pulled every connection under the seat and nothing seems loose. I've looked from the front and back and side of the seat. I also did the adaptation sequence and nothing. The setting in the MMI is for the seat memory to be tied to a key which we've always had off. There is no specific seat memory on/off setting.

Oh well, thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will go to the dealership tomorrow and hopefully figure it out. I'll let you all know.

Turns out there is nothing I could have done to fix it without the scan tool and a computer. There were a couple faults for the seat motors. They cleared the faults and reprogrammed the basic settings and now it works fine.

odd that it would happen out of nowhere like that but glad it was a simple fix.

Thanks for the adaptation process - used it today as I got into the same pickle as OP and this did the trick. Same as OP, I was cleaning the car and had the seats up/down/fore/aft to try to do a thorough cleaning and vacuuming in and around the seats.

And sure enough, after I was done it had forgotten that any settings were previously stored. There must be an issue with having the doors open for an extended time and moving the seat etc all while on battery power only. Although my battery is strong, maybe the draw from the seat motor was enough to sacrifice module memory to keep the battery strong?

Might never know, but thanks again for the adaptation tip.

Hi, as noted in this older thread, you need a diagnostic scantool compatible with this car, such as an OBD-Eleven. Changing the battery requires you hook up the scantool to tell the car the battery has been changed for a new one, and update any parameter changes, such as wet-cell vs AGM battery, amp hours rating, etc. If you got a OE or similar battery, there will be a BEM code sticker on it to be used for this purpose. This is extremely important step and should not be skipped (read threads on early battery failures/battery swaps/BEM codes & workarounds). Beyond that, pulling the battery causes numerous systems to throw fault codes for low voltage, etc., and the scantool is used to read the fault codes and clear them out after installing new battery, or else you will have problems with systems not working, or being degraded.

A bit late but am a newcomer. I have a 2013 Allroad and the sequence described worked when I also had this problem.
