This may be a personal preference thing. I prefer the way it is on my '10 Q7 - my wife's A4 has the fuel door release you describe in the driver's side front door and I found it to be a PITA because I'd always forget to push that button, have to remove a sunshade from the door pocket or something. I much prefer being able to open the fuel door from outside the car where I'll actually be using it.

Happened to ours too. Dealer had to pry open the door and then leave it unlock able. This lasted for over a month. Apparently the part was shipped by steamer from Germany, then came overland via dog sleigh. Or, the dealer forgot to call us and it was only when we brought it in to have the recurring (still) issue of the MIL looked into that someone remembered the fuel door lock pin.
Still love ours too!

Same thing on my 2008 Q7. I used a credit card to get it open.
One suggestion: Try to clean the plastic interconnecting features, because the dust + moisture can get the door stuck.

I had this happen on our '08. The dealer adjusted
the spring and spackled everything with lithium
grease. This worked until it got cold. This thickened
the grease which kept the pin from re-engaging the
door. Which, you guessed it, kept the door from closing.
At this point the dealer replaced the entire mechanism.
There have been no issues since. If the actuator(pin) is working
The problem is the spring.

This happened to my 2008 Q7 yesterday and luckily enough we got the inside panel opened inside the car behind the fuel door and found there was a loose fuse...pushed it in and the door opened as usual! Just thought I'd pass along this tip.

fyi anyone experiencing this I have a Q7 2007 had the same problem. I got it open and adjust the spring and worked fine after that. I pulled the spring out a little so when door closed there was more tension and would pop open easier.

Any pictures or video on how to get to the manual unlocking cord on '10+ Q7? Particularly one with the air suspension and/or other devices placing electronics on the interior panel behind the fuel filler.

On our '07 4.2 with pretty much every option, you can still access the pull cord, even with all of the modules back there. It is not as visible as it is in the '07 3.6 with far fewer options, but you can still see it and put a finger on it in order to utilize it.
