I much prefer being able to open the fuel door from outside the car where I'll actually be using it.
Agreed. The way the buttons are in the Q7, nothing gets in the way and you look at that area of the door whenever you exit the car. To me, the electronic release is more in keeping with the nature of the Q7(whose electronic release for the glove box is something I have never seen before).

Still love ours too!
Just as audigraffy described his situation the dealership took their time and have finally repaired the filler door after a full week. "Waiting on parts" was their excuse. We did enjoy driving the 2011 Q5 2.0T loaner for a few days. I do not have the paperwork in front of me at the moment to post the details. I'll post them as soon as I get access to the car.

Same thing on my 2008 Q7. I used a credit card to get it open.
One suggestion: Try to clean the plastic interconnecting features, because the dust + moisture can get the door stuck.

I had this happen on our '08. The dealer adjusted
the spring and spackled everything with lithium
grease. This worked until it got cold. This thickened
the grease which kept the pin from re-engaging the
door. Which, you guessed it, kept the door from closing.
At this point the dealer replaced the entire mechanism.
There have been no issues since. If the actuator(pin) is working
The problem is the spring.

This happened to my 2008 Q7 yesterday and luckily enough we got the inside panel opened inside the car behind the fuel door and found there was a loose fuse...pushed it in and the door opened as usual! Just thought I'd pass along this tip.

Along with greesing the mecanism you can open the metal spring a little, never had a problem after.

fyi anyone experiencing this I have a Q7 2007 had the same problem. I got it open and adjust the spring and worked fine after that. I pulled the spring out a little so when door closed there was more tension and would pop open easier.

Any pictures or video on how to get to the manual unlocking cord on '10+ Q7? Particularly one with the air suspension and/or other devices placing electronics on the interior panel behind the fuel filler.

On our '07 4.2 with pretty much every option, you can still access the pull cord, even with all of the modules back there. It is not as visible as it is in the '07 3.6 with far fewer options, but you can still see it and put a finger on it in order to utilize it.
