Default Towing - what gear?

Going to tow this weekend with the Q7 for the first time - 6x10 utility trailer hauling a golf cart. Finally got the wiring socket installed and adapter for LED trailer lights - all lighting is working flawlessly. Quick question though - what gear should I tow in - "D", "S", or should I manual shift?

Do you have details of adapter for LED lights?

Thanks for the info.

Here is what I purchased:

Amazon.com: Tow Ready 20141 7-Way Flat Pin to 5-Flat Adapter with LED Lamp Out Bypass: Automotive Amazon.com: Tow Ready 20141 7-Way Flat Pin to 5-Flat Adapter with LED Lamp Out Bypass: Automotive

If you are in the UK, you probably do not use the 7-pin round connector

Don't manual shift, you can burn up clutches if you downshift incorrectly. I've pulled much heavier things (5k to 8k lbs) than a 6x10 with a golf cart and D works just fine. The ONLY time I used anything but D was when I was pulled an open steel car trailer with an A6Q on the back, going up some seriously steep hills and I needed engine braking. The hills were steep enough that the 4.2 almost needed to grab 1st gear going up. That was probably 6k lbs, and not the most I've had behind it (that was a dump trailer loaded with dirt). Yes, I added a trailer brake controller.

Some old trailers are 7 pins, everything else is really 13 pins..
Most of the new caravans have LED lights and cars over here have trouble connecting to them..
I havent tried the Q7 on the newer caravan yet...
Thanks for info..

Its similar to the resisters you fit to cars when you do led conversions.
The father in law needed it to his new caravan as he is towing it with a ford ranger with normal rear bulbs.
In theory we should not need them on ours as ours are set up for leds so check for blown bulbs differently.

In the US of A, we have two different 4-pin (flat & round), two different 5-pin (flat & round), two different 6-pin (two-row flat & round) and two different 7-pin (RV and "Utility", both round). Oh, plus a 7-pin commercial (SAE J560 style).
