I have an '09 S5 (4.2L)with 64k. Began getting engine check light at about 62k. Dealer diagnosed carbon build-up which is a $1200 fix. He said that he has never had any success getting Audi to cover this but I asked him to try (I have warranty to 100k). Just learned today that Audi will cover it. I am very happy to know that this may cover me to 120k miles as well. Agree. Good for Audi.

I called last Friday as my CEL just came on and, sure enough, the ports were gummed up.

No go on the Q7 4.2.

I also had an oil filter stand gasket and crank case ventilation oil leak so getting it all done at the same time.

Hopefully she comes back peppier than she went in.

Probably the same reason they won't cover the $1,000 I paid the dealer to carbon clean my 2008 3.2 to clear the CEL. Audi probably feels it's just too expensive and they would rather sacrifice customer satisfaction for the sake of the corporate balance sheet.

2007 3.6 Q7 with 50,000 miles and oil changed every 5K at Audi dealer with only the highest grade/brand gas and now have excessive carbon build up. Audi of America says engine not covered despite extending warranties on 3.0 and 3.2L engines, but not the 3.6 or 4.2. Known design flaw which has been corrected and not supporting their existing owners. Last Audi I will purchase based on my interaction with AofA. Welcome Mercedes GL450.

second what Tric says. How can they acknowledge it as an issue on the newer engines when the same design flaw extended to the original?

Add to that no news of the redesign and it is GL or Cayenne for me also

My letter was just sent to the Office of the CEO of Audi of America. Be curious how their customer service response is. Will let the Board know if they really mean "Truth in Engineering" or "Truth - We don't stand by our Engineering".
