What is the difference is performance between 3L Gas and 3L TDI?
I am shopping for a new SUV and RX350 and Q7 are the most likely choices.
For Q7, I know everyone is talking about TDI but what is the real difference in performance? I do not have an opportunity to test drive both side by side unfortunately.
What I am looking for is:
- which one is more dynamic (accelerates better) at 80-100 km per hour speed? I am no worried about taking off from the traffic light first but like an ability to accelerate while I am driving at a cursing speed. I actually hate when a car takes off really fast and then looses all the dynamics.
- how do I read torque specs?
Yes, I understand the fuel consumption is much better with TDI. One of my challenges is that in Canada there are very few options for TDI models while if I build on Gas Tech model, I can add features.

There's a massive difference in size between the RX350 and the Q7.
B490MTL is right, the RX350 == Q5.
In terms of performance, again, chalk & cheese.
There's no-damn-way that I'd (personally) even consider a Petrol Q7. It's a very heavy vehicle and really benefits from having the stomping torque that only a diesel engine can deliver.
What do you mean "how"?
Torque is a measure of how much a force acting on an object causes that object to rotate. Just as a force is a push or a pull, a torque can be thought of as a twist to an object.
Official SI literature uses the unit newton metre (N m).
Imperial units uses "foot-pounds-force" (ft lb).
Use this online converter to translate between the two.
I don't understand what "features" you're talking about. Explain please?

With TDI Progressive, you can't add any Lane assist, adaptive cruise control and etc options.

Usually for the torque the higher at a lower RPM the better, meaning you have power from the start. Best thing to do is to go compare both vehicules, I have a co-worker with an RX and it is a lot smaller than the Q7. I am guessibg the extra cargo room is the height because the Q has a very high load floor.

2014 Lexus RX 350:
80.3 cubic feet with 2nd row seats folded
40 cubic feet with 2nd row upright
2014 Audi Q7:
72.5 cubic feet with 2nd & 3rd rows folded
42 cubic feet with 3rd row folded
10.9 cubic feet with 3rd row upright
What this means to you is that the TDI will "feel" like it accelerates faster (from both stopped and cruising speeds) because you can achieve max torque with less RPM than the FSI.
I also note that the TDI Technik pack allows most of the options to be selected in the configurator.
