Default Windshield wiper defective warning

Hi, a couple of months ago my windshield wiper broke & I replaced it. Now almost three months later I'm getting a windscreen wiper defective warning. They are still working fine. Has anyone experienced this and if so, what did you do to fix the problem? The constant beeping is very annoying.

This warning usually comes with the wiper motor being disconnected or an electrical problem. Can you move the wipers by hand when your Q7 is off? I had the replace the linkage because it was seized at one point.

Should the wipe move or not when it is off.?

Thank you for responding. No, they don't move freely while off. Does that mean it's the motor or wiring?

Your motor or linkage has seized, about 600$ for the new assembly which includes both parts.

I'm experiencing something altogether different...

The wipers worked like a champ yesterday as I pulled into the car wash...

10 minutes later, it's raining (I know, my fault, never wash on a 50% day, ruins it for all of us) and the wipers will not respond at all.

20 minutes later, they cycle ONCE, then all is lost.

They move quite freely when the car is off, no check lights or warnings.
Rear wiper moves fine, fuses are good.

VCDS says

00908 Control Module for Wiper Motor
03 Mechanical Failure - Intermittent

After manually cranking them back and forth, I finally get the message on the dash, "wiper failure"

So... bottom line, is this a bad plug, or a bad motor?

What year is your Q7? I would remove the wiper motor to open it to see if the gear is damaged and if not make it run freely without the linkage.

2008.

I'm in the process of trying to get the cowl off. I had an aftermarket windscreen put in a year or so back, and apparently they overglued... I'm afraid I'm going to crack the windscreen while attempting to remove the cowl.
This is becoming a pain.

Linkage seems to run wonderfully, even with the motor attached, although there is a spot in the middle where it gives much less resistance. I'm assuming this is a bad motor.

Does anyone know of where I might find a motor for less than $300? I was hoping this simple motor wouldn't be THAT expensive.
