The big issue is that most people would prefer to stay home in these conditions but what if you're caught in the unexpected? In these climates, there is no argument against winter tires other than cost.

That Jeep is awesome!!!!!!
Thanks for the feedback. I'd prefer to not drive in the mess around here either, but I do live 30 miles from the office and don't want an unsafe driving experience should I get caught in snow.

Any recommendation for wheel/tire sizes?

You might look at the Nokian WRG2 or WRG3. They have an all season compound with a tread design that is much more snow/ice specific than the typical all season SUV tread design, so (in theory) they will keep you out of trouble in the rare snow/ice events. But because they are a regular all season rubber compound, they will be better for the dry and/or warmer conditions you are more likely to see where you live.

They still won't perform as well as a true winter compound snow tire in real snow/ice conditions, but you probably won't see more than a handful total days at those conditions in GA. The other thing to consider is driving a true winter tire in warm weather (say ~65F or more) is almost as risky as driving a true summer tire in cold conditions- the tire grip becomes compromised when the winter compound warms up and gets VERY squishy.

On fitment, I'd agree with pchansen on the 19" size- it's a decent sweet spot of tread width and aspect ratio. You'll give up some sharpness in handling feel, but not too much- at least for what's attributable to tire size. For folks who regularly drive in deep snow, a narrower tread width actually is preferred and assuming you are on 20s or S-Line 21s, the standard minus sizing to the 19" wheel will be a narrower tire.

Default Pirelli Winter Scorpions - On Order

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I have a road trip to Kentucky coming up Dec 6, so do not have time to research/find/wait for delivery of wheels that I like.

So: I went ahead and ordered a set of P295/35/R21 Pirelli Winter Scorpions from Tire Rack (unfortunately my local dealer could not get them). They are shipping to my local dealer who agreed to do the install.

Will post pics after the install.

Happy Thanksgiving
