I'm new to audi q7 but in my other cars, I'm able to close the rear hatch via remote by holding the hatch button for 2s or pushing the driver switch again to close. It seems that the features are not available in the Q7. Can someone confirm and if there are workarounds to this feature?

Our q7 hatch will go down but it has to have the button held or it stops moving.

Yes, you must hold the button in the driver door up until the lid closes, and the ignition must be on when you do this.

You can also close the lid by holding the button on the key fob when outside the vehicle but within about 8 ft.

I changed my trunk to one-touch for closing... perhaps you can do this with VCDS on your car.

I'm not sure the coding is the same for your car, I have a 2014 A8L.

There is someone that has a coding list for the Q7.

Do you have VCDS or another coding system?

I have OBDEleven but the coding should be the same I believe if your 2014 A8L has MIB2 which the Q7 4M has.
