83 URQ brake issue
Good morning everyone.I have a question regarding my 1983 URQ.Is it possible to get a hard brake pedal on the 83 URQ with the hydraulic booster (versus a vacuum booster), that is typically available on a modern Audi?I have bled the brakes several times myself and had the system bled by a reputable shop. With the engine off, I do have a hard pedal, but with the engine on, the pedal softens. I can't figure out why.I would a appreciate any suggestion(s) from anyone on the list and I thank you in advance.

Hello acattard,
Your hydraulic pressure accumulator (aka the bomb) is gone. It sits on top of the pressure regulator of the hydraulic system. Replace it and you will be fine again.

Brake issue
Werner, how does one go about determining if the "bomb" has indeed gone bad; presumingly it has a pin hole in it. Specifically, how does one test test the "bomb" for proper operation?? Thanks in advance.
BTW, do you happen to have the part #?. I would greatly appreciate.

The way you described it, its dead!!!
Under normal conditions you have to press the brake pedal at least 20x to get a hard feel. Resulting in no residual presure in the system. In your case it is gone right after the pump is turned off, meaning your nitrogen charge/membrane are gone.
EDEKA can help you with the part #.
