APR Tune. No difference. WTF?!
Last week I had my 2008 RS4 flashed with APR software from an authorized dealer. I don't really notice much of a difference. It seems really peppy when the RPMs are in the 3x1000 to 4x1000 range but nothing to really knock my socks off.
Should I return the flash (web site says I have 30 days no questions asked policy) and go back to stock or would I see a much bigger difference if I went with JHM?
Thanks!

^ I'm just about to install a JHM tune this weekend. I'll let you know if I feel an immediate difference or not.
My assumption is that I will, because the JHM tune deletes the 1st through 3rd gear torque limiter. I'll also perform some before/after logs to have something better than the butt-dyno to compare.

Seriously? Man I'd be pissed if I the butt dyno showed zero HP gain. My GIAC tune - admittedly not the most popular tune in the world - was night and day. It also removed the torque limiter which was worth the price of admission alone. Take it back!!!! I'm no fan boy of JHM though, mostly because of shady customer service as reported repeatedly on the forums and some products with dubious claims.

Say more about the torque limiter. Not a noob here, but I am still on stock software. I'm guessing the limiter is there to minimize stress on the driveline with the torque amplification of the lowest gears... but most of us don't go through the lowest gears at full throttle often. I would gladly take the trade of more thrust when I want it for slightly reduced drivetrain life.
Kind of motivates me to see it on VAGCom.

When I first got the APR (test pipe version), torque limiter was still there. In their ad, states they delete it. After several logs that I sent to them, they revised their code and deleted the 1 - 3 limiter. New file should be v1.1. I would assumed they did it for both test pipe and non test pipe versions. If you have a VAG, log throttle position to determine if it's still there.

JHM tune installed. I haven't logged it yet.
My perception is that the difference is immediate, and noticeable:
- 1st through 3rd feel -much- more powerful
- Upper gears feel slightly more powerful
- Throttle feels like a dead spot has been removed when blipping/rev-matching
My first impression is highly favorable. No downside noted as of yet.

^ Just the tune.
I discussed the tune requirements with JHM's tuner. He made it clear that the tune is perfectly fine with the stock exhaust, you just don't get the full benefit of the tune.
I actually have DPs on order, but they are not here yet. I like the stock mufflers with the valves, so I don't plan on replacing that section at this time.
