So sorry to hear of your clutch problems. That does sound a lot like M/C issues or even the infamous ballooning pressure hose recall issue from back in 2007. It may not matter at this point, as a failed actuation system may well have roasted the clutch itself, based upon what you've written about the smell.

These clutches are really surprisingly robust but nothing can stand up to a mis-behaved actuator - and by actuator I mean either operator or hardware. I'm not suggesting operator error in this case, but we all know it happens!

That recall never applied to my vehicle. They are going to take it apart and determine whether it's just the slave cylinder, and make a decision from there. The car is not on the schedule for 2 weeks, so I won't get an answer until then.

Mine wasn't actually recalled either. The hose was installed in-port, when it got off the boat, and before it was put on a truck to be delivered to my dealer. It delayed delivery for about a week. That was early September, 2006. Good luck, hope it works out OK for ya'll.

I don't know how to get that history re what happened in port. Pls advise. Mine was probably similar build date. Estimate is $2,000 if whole clutch has to be replaced (not fly wheel). If only slave cylinder, less. They will get to take it apart on Oct. 18. I was pleased at the $2K estimate, that's less than I thought it would be and way less than the dealer.

That sounds reasonable. And please excuse my previous posts regarding master cylinder - I meant to say slave cylinder!

I beleive Audi service can look up your car to see if the hose has been replaced. I'm pretty sure it has.
