Default Trouble finding reverse?

Maybe one in three times, the RS4 tranny won't shift into reverse. My guess is a synchro issue because the car needs to be put into a forward gear and moved slighty before it will then go into reverse. But hopefully just a shifter adjustment? Anybody else?

Do you have a short shifter?

Default Nope. My two theories are...

1) Tranny was dropped in port to change clutch hose and upon reassembly the shifter wasn't adjusted properly.

2) I still have a BMW hangover and simply haven't been pushing DOWN hard enough. Time will tell on this one.

Pushing down was my problem the first week I had my S4.

Default You might be right, had 100% success rate today with about 6 attempts. Pro'ly BMW hangover...

My M5 didn't require the shifter to be pushed down for reverse. I probably just wasn't pushing down hard enough on the RS4. Thanks for the feedback.

My 850 has that getrag 6 speed too, definitely a lot simpler to find reverse.

Default Interesting ... M3 has the opposite problem

At Skip Barber this week, I saw several drivers shove the M3 gearbox into reverse, when they meant to be in 1st. That didn't make the instructors happy, when they did that in the pits and started backing into the car behind them!

Default BMW's R gate has a heavier spring in the same plane, so it's a "feel" thing.

The Audi "Down For Reverse" is better for a first-time Audi driver. But you're right, Audi guys going to BMW will be looking for first where reverse is, and BMW guys going to Audi don't push down hard enough (like me).

I prefer the BMW Reverse, but overall, the RS4 shifter requires less effort with shorter throws than my M5 shifter.

Fellas this just started in my 07 rs4. worked flawlessly till all of sudden it really doesn't want to go into reverse. I know where it is, I know how to get there and push down and find it .... But she is very stubborn and wont let me slid it in........ I moved forward and still the same when I try reverse again. It Drive me Crazy. Eventually it goes in but feels way to forced. out of adjustment?
