Default Replacement Key for 2003 A4

My dealer, Jim Ellis Audi, Atlanta estimated $400 to replace my lost key - I now have only 1 key. They will not program a key unless it is ordered through them. $260 for the key and $140 to program it. Plus it requires 2 1.5 hr round trip visits to the dealer, one to prove ownership, and one to get and test the key.

There is tons of conflicting information online about keys, although I've not seen prices of $400.

There are also plenty of locksmiths that advertise they can do the replacement (eg, Audi Key Replacement Atlanta Georgia | Mobile Car Locksmith 24HR). Does anyone have experience with these "advanced" type locksmiths, or with any places that claim to be able to clone the electronics from an existing key?

Their are many licensed locksmiths around the country that are certified by auto manufacturers to replace and program keys. Several years ago I had a key successfully cloned by one of those locksmiths.

I found a locksmith that will drive to me next week and cut, clone a key without the remote capability for $120. I'll post back the status.

I see I accidentally posted in the S4 forum instead of the A4 forum, sorry about that.

I am in the same boat, have only one key fob for my car. I was quoted 218 for key fob with immobilizer, plus 153 for programming. How did things go with the key from locksmith?

kaps - sorry to hear about the key. In my case I was able to recover the missing key from a department store lost & found box.

To recover the keys, contacting local locksmith is a suitable option because they will do it at cheap and very quick than the dealer.

Car key can be misplaced anytime so you must have the contact details of a local locksmith. They can help you in key duplication when you've lost the original one.

Locksmith fort worth often spend part of their working day opening locks for people who have lost or misplaced their keys. They may do this by picking the lock or by making a duplicate key.
