stick shift lowers and loud thump in car
I have an 05 s4 and i truly love this car. However, when shifting hard from first going up through the gears, the shift lever lowers and i hear a lound thump under the car. Im hoping someone can point me in the right direction so i can get her fixed. Thanks in advance!

I did check the motor mounts today. They show no signs of damage or leaking. Tomorrow I'm going to look at the transmission mounts as well. If anyone has some pointers, I will take all the info i can get. Thanks again!

Has anyone had a problem where you turn the key and the cart won't turn over? My car has started fine with no delay or dragging in the starter until today. I stopped by a store to run in a grab something to drink and when i came out it wouldn't start. I hear a relay click under the dash. I also hear absolutely nothing at the starter. No click from the solenoid. No turning from the starter motor. Nothing. Ideas?

Yes, check motor/snub/tranny mounts.
Also, you have classic signs that your starter is starting to go bad (see what I did there?).
The starter issue is not uncommon for this chassis.

Thanks for the reply. The fellas that installed my gps tracker wired it into the ignition wire and did not make the connection properly and it came loose. Luckily my starter is good, for now. I believe my right engine mount is bad and needs to be replaced. Any links for some good ones?

Ha!
Well, thank God for little miracles.
LOL
At least you've got it figured out.
As far as mounts go, ECS recently introduced new stiffer than oem mounts. 034 also has a very good, reputable line of mounts, as does apikol.
Just google search any of them and you'll find vendors that sell them.
When I upgraded my clutch, I had the shop install 034 tranny mounts on my B7.
I'm actually waiting on warmer weather to install 034 torque mount, ECS engine mounts and ECS rear diff mount a well. Though, I'm getting a bit impatient and may just have my shop do the install.
I upgraded the snub, engine, tranny, and diff mounts on my stage 3 b5 S4 years ago and it really tightened up the drivetrain, and shifting the 01E transmission suddenly became much more precise and just had a crisper feel to it.

I bought my s4 with 130k miles on it for 8k. So far I'm loving it. The acceleration past 60 is so much fun. I find it a little slow to 60 but maybe its just me. Im gonna look for those mounts when i make it back home and see what i can find. Thanks again.
