Default How to tell if a car is a lemon

Hello

First post here.

I'm thinking of buying an S4 and was wondering if a bad service history is any indication of whether a car will have future problems.

Looking at an '08 S4 with 50k miles on it, but it's already been decarboned and had a blown piston and fuel injector.

Otherwise, it's bone stock and never been tracked. The service manager at the Audi dealership where it's been serviced its entire life says it's a good solid vehicle but it just got unlucky.

Not sure if this is an indication of potential future problems or just part and parcel of these RS4s and the way they are built.

Thanks for any insight,
Raz

PS. And what's with $2000 for a brake job? I like to drive which is why I'm considering this vehicle, but can't afford bankruptcy if even routine maintenance will drown me in debt.
