2014 S4 Brake recommendation
My 2014 has about 33k on it now. 70% of it is freeway and I have not see the brake emergency light off yet. But I am expecting I would need some new pad or even rotor soon. (Of course 1 of the main reason upgrading the pad is trying to get rip of the squealing sound. ceramic pad!?). So here is my question.
- Brand recommendation on either pad and rotor? I heard most EBC and Akebonos. Any others?
- I see EBC website and they have so many diff. kind. Any one any experience? (I don't go track or race, but heavy foot couple days a month)
- Recommendation on honor car shop near MA or PA special in euro car?
- hit&miss question: Should I also preform rotor replacement while I am doing my pad? Some say yes, some say no. I do not know how to measure the thickness of the rotor without taking out the tires and thing. (I don't have tools and place at my current location)
I would probably not going back to dealership to do brake or rotor replacement because the sky high price that I am seeing from this forum.

Edit: typo

Brake pads vary greatly in their characteristics and depend completely on what you're looking for. If you place more importance on dustless pads versus bite and high performance, the akebono makes a great ceramic pad that will have very little noticeable dust and will be a quiet pad. If you value stopping power and like a lot of initial bite, the OEM pads are actually really good. If you are going to do hard core mountain runs you may want to go with a stoptech street performance pad that will dust a lot but has very good fade resistance.

I went with Stoptech slotted rotors and stock pads and I'm very happy. I tried ceramic pads but didn't like the reduced stopping power one bit.

Isn't the stock pad making all those squealing sound during cold? or rotor?
I actually like the performance of the stock pad or pad that could bite more but hate about the squealing sound.

I haven't noticed any squealing sounds with the stock pads, but where I live, freezing is as cold as it gets.
Regarding bite, honestly, I haven't found a pad with better bite than the stock pads.
Overheating was a big problem with the fully stock setup but since I switched to the stoptech rotors, I haven't been able to overheat the brakes on my favorite canyon anymore.

Good for you. but Unfortunately, me and many other s4 drivers are experiencing the squealing sound from the brake. Audi dealership said that was because the performance pad was designed to act like that. (I said is BS)
I live in Boston area. Any day below 35F I will have loud squealing sound and it is embarrassing.

Squeaky Brakes Anyone?

Oh I forgot to mention, my ceramic brakes squeaked really badly, and when I installed my new set of factory pads I put brake caliper lube on all the moving parts (not the pad/rotor contact surface obviously.)
