Thanks.
I forgot to mention that during that 300+ mile first drive, the computer said I averaged 30.1 MPG across PA's hilly terrain at about 80 MPH. I know computer estimate will probably be 2-3 MPG optimistic, but that's really impressive.
I initially looked at the B7 S4 models, but the old V8's average MPG in the mid teens led me to look newer. With all the electronic gadgets and increased fuel economy, I'm really glad I did. It will never have the roar of the V8, but I put my windows down in the tunnel on the way home and punched it and it made a wonderful noise nonetheless. This car really is an all around fantastic bit of machinery. The only trouble is when I get back in my VW 2.0T and push the gas pedal it feels like nothing is happening.

Congrats on your "new-to-you" S4! Regarding the bolsters, there are some products out there that can help. See post #6 here about a Swisswax product that is rather impressive.

Seems like my tank still has about 2 gallons in it after the gauge shows E and the range estimator gets down towards zero. (I was able to put in 15 gallons in what is supposed to be a 17 gallon tank). Is this normal? Is a more accurate reading something that can be obtained through a VAG Com?

Brief update: After two months and about 2,000 miles - no problems so far on my high mileage S4.
I investigated my loose shift **** and found that the **** portion had come detached from the rubber part that slides over the metal shift lever. I didn't want to glue it, but a little masking tape to increase the size of the rubber part ever so slightly did the trick.
Other than that, it's been trouble free (and fun) driving so far. Fingers crossed.

More or less like new. There were a few little caked on spots here and there. I used a Mr. Clean magic eraser per a tip that I read somewhere and it seemed to do the job - although you have to be careful. Vigerous scrubbing led to some fibers being pulled off w/ the dirt.
