Default Advice on buying a used s4

Hello I may be in the market to buy a used 14 or 15 year model s4 within the next year and have a few questions

1. What price should I negotiate for
2. How much does regular scheduled maintenance costs
3. What are some common issues seen in these cars
4. Are they reliable looking at getting a low milage auto

Thanks in advance for the info

1) Price would be dependent on model year, mileage, condition and options .These cars are in short supply and very desirable

2) Regular maintenance will vary. Oil change every 5-10 K. 55k maintenance for spark pugs but maintenance is also required for the cars with DSG trans Not sure of cost, but not cheap.

3) Most common issues are thermostat failure and IC radiator being punctured by road debris. Problems with the DSG trans. Clutch that is not as strong as most would like. Faulty PCV valve can cause excessive oil consumption.

4) These cars have been really reliable. Cpo warranty would be a good thing to get.

5) You overlooked an important element. Most will advise you to make sure you get one with a sport differential. Some will tell you its not important. IMHO, it is THE option that makes the S4 special, BTW, the B8 S4 is a great car!

also, get one with audicare if possible, depending on the mileage of the eventual car, you might get couple of maintenance done for free. i dont care for the dsg myself but to each his own. i've had mine for 22 months and only 11.5k miles, only thing i had was a radiator/thermostat blowout at 5k miles. got those plus a free water pump done out of it, other than that it has been rock solid. with DSG, you definitely would be better off with the cpo warranty as i've heard of couple of failures early. imho its not a reliablity knock, but i personally wouldn't like to get a bill for dsg replacement, however infrequent that may be. best of luck!

You can just buy AudiCare if the car does not have it.

ofcourse! but since he's buying a new(to him) car, existing audicare will be a bonus. that should be a potential benefit when comparing to another one without it, basically. i've actually found dealers to be not too focused on that and sometimes not even knowing the car they are selling, has it or not.
