Default B8.5 DSG/S-Tronic - Multiple Filters?

I have a 2013 B8.5 coming up on 35k miles which means it's time to flush the transmission. When I look online at the DSG flush kits from ECS, Europa, Amazon, etc. it lists the filter as:

Audi B8 S4 Quattro 3.0T Maintenance Drivetrain - 0B5325429E - DSG Automatic Transmission Filter - ES#289203
Part Number: 0B5325429E

It's a square-ish filter that's relatively expensive at ~$75

When I got a quote from a few shops to do the service, they listed the filter as:

Audi RS5 S4 S5 Transmission Filter Genuine 0B5 325 330 A | eBay
Part Number: 0B5325330A

As you can see, it's a round, cylinder shaped filter that's pretty cheap at ~$20

Are there multiple versions of the DL501 transmission that are so different that they take drastically different filters?

Looks like the transmission uses both filters?

https://www.automaticchoice.com/uplo...gue/vw_0b5.pdf

Note 450 the external cartridge filter that corresponds to the 0B5325330A and the 451 internal pick up filter that corresponds to 0B5325429E.

Anybody with a manual or someone who's DIYed this...which filter is supposed to be replaced?

I DIY'd my trans fluid change I did not change the filter since Audi specifically excludes that from the service bulletin noting the change for the 2010 models. If you've confirmed Audi requires the filter change for your year, there looked to be two types out there. One type had the external filter that I think you guys have referenced and the second is internal.

When I was considering doing the filter change, I planned just to go look for the external one and if there, do that one and leave the pan cover and gasket in place. Otherwise I planned to order the internal one plus gasket and do the usual. Sorry, can't advise on which (square or round) is right for you. Usually I call the dealer and ask for part and quote, then go from there.

I'd suggest looking at part explosion on Alldata but I hate the system so much I can't recommend the layout of $ for the scant information on it. And that's for my '10, I assume the '13 data is even less complete.

Yeah, the lack of data is frustrating. I've called/emailed a bunch of my local dealers last week to get part numbers but haven't heard back from them yet...

I just did mine. The larger unit is a strainer and it doesn't get replaced unless you open up the tranny for some other reason. The small cylinder one is the one I replaced. Much nicer than having to open up the pan on my A6! It appears that for 2010 MY the external filter wasn't a replaceable item. 2011 and after use the replaceable one. Don't get the cylinder filter wet since it is made of paper and can disintegrate if it gets wet. Also, make sure you VAG the trans temp when adding fluid and close up the filler between 30 and 50 C with fluid dripping out.

Default Not just a strainer...

I recently replaced the fluid in my b8.5 s4 dsg. I was curious about the internal filter vs strainer debate so I cut my old one open. Here it is, clearly it's a filter, not a strainer and I would replace with every fluid change. It did appear the the external filter did most of the work. Just thought everyone might like to see
