Cold weather and brake squeal
#12
I find it funny that you call it "an Audi feature." Every time I have an issue with my 2014 S4, the dealer tells me "it's not a problem. It's a feature." The car downshifts very hard when slowing up. "It's a feature of the engine." The upper seat back inflator doesn't inflate. "That's a feature of the upper back support component." My brakes squeal like a $15,000 1988 Chevy Vega. "That's a feature." I find it ridiculous that a luxury car's brakes squeal like this. Mine are so loud, it is unbearable. Other manufacturers solved the squeaking brake pad issue decades ago after switching away from asbestos pads, but Audi just calls it "a feature" and that keeps their quality numbers from getting dinged. This is my first and likely last Audi.

Audi issued TSB #2027636/12 to address this problem. This solved the brake squeal in my 2012 S4 with 24K miles on it. If your dealership gives you all these crap about the problem being normal or a feature or whatever, call AoA and mention the TSB. Be prepared to replicate the problem when you go to the dealership. Mine was doing it when braking at low speeds. If they don't hear it they won't fix it. Good luck!

Wow thanks for the tip. I figured it was just a function of the materials they use, and there's not much they can do to stop it. The squeaking is so bad, I was pulling up to the booth in a parking garage yesterday and the attendant in the booth covered his ears. Embarrassing. I will be sure to mention it when scheduling my next service appointment.
