2011 s4 with 67,000 miles suddenly showing engine running hot. After pulling over the temperature returns to normal. Coolant level is normal and fans are running. Temperature goes up when accelerating and goes down quickly when coasting. Both fans running when we got home and engine is not hot at all.
It is a 45 mile commute and normally only 1 fan is running. Hoses are not hot
and you can put your hand on the engine. Could it be a sensor? Also the warning light came on only once and the the oil display showed up all of a sudden and showed normal. Any thoughts on what it could be. I believe we had the thermostat and pump done under recall years ago. Once again the engine was not hot.

If your coolant level is normal, then it's likely the thermostat.
