Right you are… people had to evacuate early and even then, some large animals, such as horses, sheep, goats and alpacas died in the flames. One woman worked with a vet to humanely put down a horse that was trapped, so it wouldn't burn to death.

We are all more fragile and tied to the earth in ways that we sometimes forget.
